Joe Sakic is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre who played his entire NHL career with the Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche franchise. He is a two-time Stanley Cup champion and Hockey Hall of Fame inductee.

Early life and junior hockey

Sakic was born in Burnaby, British Columbia, and developed in the Canadian junior system. He won major junior honours in the Western Hockey League before being drafted 15th overall by the Quebec Nordiques in 1987.

NHL career

Sakic played 21 NHL seasons for the Quebec Nordiques and Colorado Avalanche, serving as long-time captain. Known for elite offensive production and playoff performance, he led the Avalanche to Stanley Cups in 1996 and 2001.

International career and honours

Sakic represented Canada at major tournaments, winning Olympic gold in 2002 and completing the Triple Gold Club. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012, and his number 19 is retired by the Avalanche.
