Mark Wiseman is a Canadian lawyer, investor, and diplomat who became Canada’s ambassador to the United States in February 2026. He previously led major pension funds including the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board.

Who is Mark Wiseman?

Born in 1970 in Ontario, Wiseman earned degrees from Queen’s University, the University of Toronto, and Yale University as a Fulbright scholar. He began his career in law before moving into investment management, where he spent most of his professional life.

Career in finance and investment

Wiseman served as president and CEO of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board from 2012 to 2016 and later chaired the Alberta Investment Management Corporation. He also held senior roles at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, BlackRock, and advisory positions at Lazard and Boston Consulting Group. He is a cofounder of the global initiative FCLTGlobal.
