Louis Napoléon Champagne was a Canadian lawyer, judge, and Liberal politician from Quebec.
Louis Napoléon Champagne was a Canadian lawyer, judge, and Liberal politician from Quebec. He represented Wright in the House of Commons from 1897 to 1904 and later served as a judge of the Quebec Superior Court.
Early life and education
Champagne was born in Saint-Eustache, Canada East, in 1860. He studied at the Séminaire de Saint-Hyacinthe and Université Laval, and was admitted to the Quebec bar in 1882.
Political career
He practised law in Hull, served as its solicitor, and was elected mayor in 1893 and 1896. As a Liberal, he represented the riding of Wright in the House of Commons from 1897 to 1904.
Judicial career and legacy
In 1904, Champagne was appointed to the Quebec Superior Court for the Pontiac district, later transferred to Ottawa. He died in Ottawa in 1911 at age 50, remembered in Quebec legal and political history.
